On June 2, 1975, Reed Ashwill founded the Borden Hamman Agency, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey in the insurance industry.
The story begins with Sid Borden, owner of the Borden Agency in California. Sid’s friend, Bob Hamman, was not only a grand master bridge player but also well-connected among affluent bridge enthusiasts. Recognizing an opportunity, Sid encouraged Bob to obtain an insurance license so he could offer insurance services to his wealthy circle of friends.
When renowned businessman Ira Corn invited Bob to Dallas to play for the legendary Dallas Aces bridge team, Sid suggested that Bob leverage the Borden Agency’s contracts to establish a general agency in Dallas. However, Bob was more interested in bridge than managing agents, so they sought someone capable and driven to lead the new venture. That person was Reed Ashwill.
Reed took the helm and, through dedication and vision, helped the agency flourish. In 1981, after years of hard work, Reed purchased the business from Sid and Bob. Having built a strong reputation around the Borden Hamman name, Reed chose to keep it, honoring its legacy.
Since then, the Borden Hamman Agency has grown and evolved, proudly serving hundreds of thousands of customers.
Today, we celebrate Reed and Marian Ashwill, whose leadership and commitment have shaped our agency’s enduring legacy. We also extend our deepest gratitude to our valued customers and friends—without your trust and support, none of this would be possible.
